Normally I wouldn’t write the words Australia and New Zealand in the same sentence. There is a strong mutual dislike between Aussies and Kiwis and I try to respect that. But the two countries are close together so many travelers lump the two together whether they like it or not. Knowing this, it’s hard to write about New Zealand without then giving Australia travel tips as well.
People go to Australia to experience the wide variety of activities and it has become a major tourist destination. If you come to Australia for adventure, then you will want to make sure you have a healthy budget. There is much adventure to be had. Diving the Great Barrier Reef is an obvious choice but one you will not regret. Australia is also known for Uluru, the second largest single rock in the world (the 1st is also in Australia). Uluru is found in Australia’s Red Centre in the heart of Outback Australia. You can climb this rock monolith but you may come under some scrutiny from other visitors. The climb is actually a sacred path with spiritual significance to the Australian aboriginals that is only taken by few men. People have also been hurt climbing Uluru so the traditional owners feel responsible for the injuries even though they have asked people to refrain from climbing.
New Zealand is also a land of adventure and has been duly nicknamed the adventure capital of the world. If you love to be outside, these New Zealand travel tips will keep you busy. The hiking is spectacular on the Franz Josef Glacier where you can crawl through glacier tunnels. If hiking is what you like to do then you’ll also want to hike the Tongariro Crossing that takes you through some of the most beautiful landscapes of New Zealand. There are also more extreme adventures available for the adrenaline junkies out there. You can easily find places to bungee jump and skydive.
