Three man tents are usually very light and extremely easy to erect making them a great addition to your kit if you have to carry everything you need on your person. If you are going on a little hiking trip with a couple of friends and are looking to sleep under the stars then they are often the best option and are relatively cheap.

One of the best types of 3 man tent to take on a hike is a 3 man lightweight tunnel tent. They offer a nice sleeping area between two end porches – one of which can be used as an entrance to your sleeping area and the other is a perfect space to store all your packs and equipment. As you will normally only ever get in to the tent from one end then this second porched area is a great storage solution. Try to make sure that the end you use as an entrance is the one that is not exposed too much. This means every time you open the doors you won’t have the wind and rain gushing in and it will mean a more comfortable experience all round.

If you are camping in extreme heat then you can have both entrances open so that you can get a bit of airflow through the tent which will hopefully cool you and your tent sharing friends down a little. Whilst most three man tents are pretty similar in design, you should try and make sure you purchase one that fits your needs perfectly. If you find you are putting up and taking down the tent everyday then you should go for a more lightweight option as these are usually simpler to erect and dismantle. If you are planning to stay in one place for the whole length of your holiday then a sturdier more robust model should be purchased as they often afford more room to the owner and with their sturdiness comes a better aptitude to keeping the elements out.

If you are spending an extended time in your tent and there are likely to be three of you sharing then it may be an idea to get a larger sized tent as although a 3 man tent is designed for three men, it may be a little cramped. This is definitely the case when spending extended time in your tent. If that is what you are going to do then you need to look at buying a larger tent such as a four or five person tent.
