How many duck calls should I have on my lanyard?

When it comes to duck hunting there are so many gadgets and things that you can use to get the ducks close to your blind.  And the key to consistently shooting ducks and having impressive bags of birds is the amount of ducks that come within good range of your guns.  To that end many people have an impressive decoy spread and pay thousands of dollars to lease a hot piece of land that attracts ducks by the hundreds.  Another way to go about this is to become a great duck caller and coax the ducks close with sounds that they are used to hearing.   The question then becomes how many and which type of duck calls should be purchase?

This is one of the key things many have to ponder when they are trying to find that perfect duck call for sale.  When it comes to duck calling a few things need to be in consideration.  First and foremost the kind of areas we plan to hunt.  For large, open lakes, rivers and reservoirs we need a call that reaches out and gets their attention.  An acrylic duck call is a perfect example of such a call and the key idea here is loud calls that travel very far over water.  Now, while this call is perfect for this it is not good in the trees or flooded timber as it is often referred.  In this case the call is too loud and vibrates off the trees and actually scares the ducks.

When it comes to finding a good call for the timber we are looking for a quality sounding call, but one in a much softer tone.  While some acrylic calls can make this sound, often a much better option is to go with a wood call that is designed to produce a softer tone, but quality sound.

When it comes to duck calls, I would suggest you go with 2 calls on your lanyard.  One for those long range, loud calls that bring the ducks from long distances and one call for those in close or in amongst the timber ducks.
